Nahh... don't think its the gases... more the chemicals they use in the process... real ale from hops is fine... lagers etc which seem to be the staple in the rest of the world do my head in...
Did get a taste for Retsina tho'.... ... and something most Brits in Portugal detest... Agua Dente... Portuguese Moonshine...LOL

We never drink underway. Way too many things can happen without warning to want to overburden the few remaining brain cells.
At anchor or mooring at the end of the day I love a good cigar and a glass of Lagavulin. 16 yo and nice and peaty. Complements a cigar like no other.
If it's hot and I don't feel like a smoke, fresh made margarita -- Sauza blanco, fresh lime juice and Triple Sec. Why ruin it with salt?

I found that people on this blog are very kind with answers. Regardless of what people say about sailors, we are responsible people, just need water to survive.

My favorite drink is hot rum, jerrys spiced rum of course.
1/2 cup hot water
1/4 cup rum
tablespoon brown sugar
nutmeg-optional
It was the perfect holiday drink and is good for colds, allergy, sleep disorder, you name it! When we did the hot rum series races in San Diego I discovered this drink.

brandy makes you randy
whiskey makes you frisky
rum makes you...........i'll leave that to your imagination....zeehag
drinking cocos, normally green or orange, just need to shake them.
rum, generally any will do but the cheaper the better for the budget.......
