Re: How do you make toast?

Having an inverter really changes the cruising experience - I believe for the better. I got one after after about 20 years of cruising. After I had 110v power always available, I never considered going without. A 38ft boat is plenty big for one.

I made toast over stove burners for many years - it's a pain in the neck compared to a proper electric toaster and rarely toasts evenly without constant attention. Once you have 110v power, you'll find many other uses.

The "premium" way to do this would be a Victron inverter charger which would also greatly improve your battery charging while at a dock. While an expensive way to make toast - it does many other things that you'll appreciate.

Unless you are very experienced - large inverters should be professionally installed.

Re: How do you make toast?

What Mike OReilly recommended is the best and easiest toast for a gas stove. We have been using these for decades, on the boat and in camp also. And here's even a link:

I'm with Teresa .

For the record, I've tried many of those other upright versions that some here say work for them. They do work, but the horizontal version Teresa links to (and I use) is leaps and bounds better in my experience.

I like the idea of using a pan, but you have to heat up the pan first, which means it takes a lot longer, and uses more propane. But it certainly wins the multi-use tool test.

I usually use champagne, raise the glass and say something positive and inspiring.
We use a bacon pan with ridges on it.

Frying pan, no oil. Doesn’t take that long, really.

We use a cheap electric toaster runs off 1500W inverter. Replaced once in 5 years. Automatic popup saves on bread (less burnt toast)

Re: How do you make toast?

All of the camp toaster gagets that diffuse or interrupt the heat of the stove flame work pretty good. But why not just spread some butter in a hot skillet and plop your bread right in it? Grilled in butter tastes better than toasted, iYAM. A comal is a little handier than a skillet for this, and of course for tortillas too, both corn and flour. The comal is also great for making english muffins, or for grilling store bought ones.WAY easier to make crepes on a comal than in a skillet, too.

Do I need to run a toaster off an inverter?

My bagels need to know!
Just fry the bread in a sauce pan.
Butter the bread before you fry it. Buttered side down.
Works for me

I use an old pan on the stove, dim the gas flame as much as I can, it takes few minutes both sides to get toasted. You can heat frozen pizza just like that. Popcorn also possible.

Re: How do you make toast?

Ive tried everything. My diffuser dries the bread out too much. Now i just use the Square Flat griddle. Medium heat. Just keep an eye on it. It's much faster than my camping toater which saves fuel and doesn't heat up the cabin as bad.

This is the best toaster ever. I have one like this that I boat in France while I was working there to fix the 2000 year bug that never happened
I sold the boat, but kept the toaster

I clicked the link but apparently that only makes French toast. 😉

Re: How do you make toast?

First, pretty funny that a thread about toast is up to 88 posts already. Lots of passion here.

Second, we tried one of those diffusers. I remember them from camping long ago so bought one to help me on toast duty instead of holding bread under the broiler. Ours rusted horribly. I suspect my wife washed it and it was a mild steel so it was brown when we went to use it the next time.

Maybe I'll try again.
