Gimballed Wallas 87D Oven Experience?

Hi, we are thinking of swapping our gas cooker for a diesel one. We want to keep life as simple as possible and our cruising plans mean that diesel would be a more sensible option, but we do need a gimballed solution. I appreciate there is a lot of information on the internet about the pros and cons of diesel cooking, however, I am struggling to find any information or people's experience of gimballed diesel ovens, particularly the Wallas 87D (which comes with a gimballed option). It looks as though it would be perfect for us, but it is an expensive option and I want to sure that we are making the right decision before we go ahead. Therefore, I would very much welcome people's experience/feedback, particularly regarding the gimbaling option. Thanks.

Re: Gimballed Wallas 87D Oven Experience?

Since gimmballing a diesel stove isn't a straight forward process due to the exhaust, I am not sure there will be many people with using it on a particular model.

Why are you so keen on diesel cooking? I get the single fuel solution but gas if maintained has a good reputation around the the world. Electric is much easier to gimbal.

Re: Gimballed Wallas 87D Oven Experience?

My friend had a gimbaled cooking stove in his boat for a long time. A wallas too.

Much later he converted to liquid gas. Now, an electric inductive plate.

So I will assume the diesel option works fine.

Re: Gimballed Wallas 87D Oven Experience?

I have had two Wallas stoves over a period of 25 years. First 22 years was Paraffin the second diesel DT85 3 years ago after the paraffin on was discontinued and parts became difficult. They are bullet proof, well made pieces of kit . Maintenance is simple and fuel is available worldwide without the need for various gas valves, regulators and solenoids.

The hob is excellent although not as quick as electric. The paraffin oven never got got hot enough to make bread and was very small. I have no experience of the later diesel oven.

My hob is fixed so have no experience of gimballing.

Re: Gimballed Wallas 87D Oven Experience?

I've just looked at all the info I can find and while a gimbal option is mentioned haven't found anything re installing with gimbals especially as it would affect the exhaust.

I would suggest putting the question directly to Wallas themselves or a dealer such as this one https://www.dieselheat.com.au/produc...tove-and-oven/
