This is a Monte cristo sandwich. Some recipes add turkey.

Yes, thank you for the name. In French I've seen it as "pain doré farci", knew there was a better name in English, but couldn't remember it.

They are quite good, and filling. A little too much for breakfast though. I've never heard" pain dore' farci "but I've never been to france either. One day hopefully.

I don't have any special recipes .... but add a little Raspberry jam on there ..... like on the Monte Cristos ..... It's sooooo good.

Something else to do, which we do at home... Use a good vanilla bean ice cream instead of milk.
My recipe isn't anything special other than that change...adds good flavor. You can change it up to any flavor of ice cream though, just for something different.

My favorite special ingredients are using amaretto in both the soaking mixture and to accompany Canadian maple syrup creme fresh with amaretto, its amazing.

I agree Canadian Maple syrup is a must. We found the best bread is Bahamian coconut bread, eggs, half&half, vanilla, cinnamon. Served with good strong coffee in the cockpit with a pleasant view !
