Here is our updated Free Spice Recipe Book - Version 2 expanded to over 200 spice recipes, more accurate and some updated images. Instead of buying ready made spice mixes, only to find that another country does not stock the same spice mixes, we opted to mix our own. We now have containers of basic spices which can easily be replenish in any country and we are ready to mix our own spice mixes wherever we are. This 200+ page free recipe book (in Acrobat Reader format) contains over 200 spice mixes from around the world.

Ever tried making your own ground ginger or garlic?

Thanks for sharing. Some of your mixes differ a bit from mine (Adobo for example). I fully support the concept. In addition to the availability issue you point out mixing your own spices increases turnover in your base spice inventory so what you carry will be fresher. Mixing your own also puts you in control of the contents. Commercial mixes often have huge amounts of salt.

Yes, we dried and powdered ginger once. But I'm too impatient waiting out the drying process, so we normally just use the freshly chopped variety.

Although we tried about 70% of the mixes, there are many we have not done yet. We collected|borrowed|"stole" most of the mixes from other chefs, cooks and books over the years and were not created by us.
