Instead of buying ready made spice mixes, only to find that another country does not stock the same spice mixes, we opted to mix our own. We now have containers of basic spices which can easily be replenish in any country and we are ready to mix our own spice mixes wherever we are. This 108 page free recipe book (in Acrobat Reader format) contains over 100 spice mixes from around the world.

No, never had any issues. One Custom officer in St. Helena did ask what was in the jars, picked up a few jars and gave it a closer look. But that was that. I'm not sure what the Australian Customs will do - probably confiscate the lot.

No doubt about that. No edible plant matter of any kind is permitted through customs.
Edited to add: commercially preserved unopened items are generally fine.

No honey either. Wood is examined carefully.

We smiled hearing an exchange at the airport is Tasmania once. There were sniffer dogs and as the dog came up one passenger commented "No drugs here". The handler smiled and said "He is searching for apples". We are super vigilant .
