Makes your eyes water to think of it. Cows are much more pleasant and make a great conversation piece standing around the salon.

If the Chickens are registered under the same flag as the vessel, then in foreign waters they become defacto citizens of your home country (but only whilst still onboard) and under international maritime law (7th and 3rd UN Conventions of the High Seas) the foreign power has to accord them the same rights as they would to any other citizen from that country. Of course it doesn't mean that they (or you) can therefore ignore all local laws

In day to day practice though no great impact, albeit for those countries that allow non-residents to vote - as defacto citizens they are also eligible to do just that.

Goats on the other hand require their own passports. Obviously

Of all the reading Ive done where boats maintained livestock. All but one mentioned rodents which were also eaten. He ditched the goat. Having served a moment with time off for good behavior in a small chicken coop. I can tell you the last thing I want near me while enjoying sailing is a chicken. After my sentence in the chicken coop I did 2 weeks hard service at a dairy farm. There will be no Cows on board my boat. From this experience I can tell you there isn't a farmer I've met who would bring livestock along on their boat.

Chickens ain't zero maintenance, man. I lived in the Great Smokey Mountains as of about a year ago and I kept them as a pup. They're a lot of work.

Mine ate just about everything. Bread, meat, veggies. Each other (Fed a chicken some cooked and raw chicken just to see if she'd eat it an' she did. She was my best laying hen, too). Wouldn't touch chicken feed unless it was a particular brand, though, rotten little jerks.

I wouldn't keep chickens. A couple ducks, yeah. But never chickens ever again.

Hey, I just thought of another good reason for having chickens along. There have always been those of us that enjoy fly fishing...Saltwater fly fishing can be a real sport. Landing a striper with a flyrod is great.

Has anyone seen those slowmo pics of great whites chomping seals?..I bet they couldn't resist a chicken on the line!

The real problem here is you all are talkin about the WRONG avian specimen... Everyone knows that you keep DUCKS onboats... Haven't any of you ever read Ping???

Chickens can't swim. Ducks can swim and could hunt for their own food while doing blue water passages and in the event you want a festive meal... Duck a'la orange is always tasty!

excellent reading... those ducks were hunters, another function a duck could fill as crew... fishing for YOUR meal instead of BEING it...

and thread drift can be a good thing. View it as an egg thread... this is just another type of egg!

and think what good use of the diving platform this would be... no duck **** on the deck!

After all.. duck LIKE water.
