carribean crustaceans

hey fellow cruisers. soon to be joining the ranks in the caribbean. we are buying a boat in maine. soon to be moving it to the caribbean after the first of the year. I can buy a used lobster pot very cheaply in maine. however, it seems like there are a hodge podge of rules/regs about trapping lobsters and crabs in the caribbean nations. does anyone have a general idea regarding where you can trap vs hand harvesting.. thanks bill

this is serious, but snark and sarcasm always appreciated..

Generally, as a visiting cruiser, you cannot employ 'traps', anywhere.

Hi buddhadawg,

in BVI you need a Fishing Licence, and i think you need licences for others islands.

those links will help you:

Acquiring a Pleasure Fishing Licence | Government of the Virgin Islands

Fishing Permits for the British Virgin Islands

let me know 😉

Re: carribean crustaceans

Are you allowed to catch lobster some other way if you don't use a trap?

You can’t fish in another countries waters without a license

I can’t imagine being able to secure a lobster pot license as a foreigner

As a rule I never fish inshore ...only offshore
