I was wondering if the IKEA cardboard storage box is still fine on the boat.
I know that bugs and bug eggs can be in the cardboard. Can I get an infestation in the decoration box from IKEA

Good question, that is a plastic "cardboard" box isn't it?
I would think, maybe as there is still all that open space in the corrugation, but perhaps roaches need the natural fibers in paper?

The linked box is not cardboard:

Base material: 100% polyester
Insert: 100% polypropylene

No more risk than coils of rope.

I have cut into these boxes. It's corrugated plastic and I think they are ideal material for a boat, though the fabric could get stained.. I have lots if the smaller ones to divide up storage and provide a little cushioning.

Thanks for the reply. I also cut one to have a look and its material is plastic.

However, I have found one which is paper board insert. Is it still OK on the boat?

This is not related to the plastic boxes but to cardboard. The most stubborn bug problem I ever had was not roaches but silverfish, which love to eat paper and cardboard of all kinds.

We use stacking transparant plastic storage containers with tight lids on our small boat, and I imagine that they'd be just as useful on a larger boat too. No rot, not bug-food, waterproof.

I try to not even bring paper grocery bags aboard, cardboard is bad juju.
