Bowls for Passage Making
On many of the Volvo Ocean race boats I see the crew using some type of insulated bowl to serve rehydrated food. I also see some crews using dog bowls, presumably because they have rubberized bottoms. Looking for some stackable insulated bowls, maybe with a lid, that we can use while on passage. Something that can be handed up to the on watch crew. Something that can be set down on deck….without much risk of spillage.

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
Perhaps not as insulated as you want but these look intriguing. We don't have them, but we have other Sea to Summit stuff that has worked well.

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
The delta bowl is nice. There is also the Kupilka ( https://kupilka.fi/en/shop/kupilka-55-3/) 5 dL bowl that I kind of like because I can at least pretend to be civilized using it. For maximum convenience I would, however, suggest the GSI Fairshare mug ( https://gsioutdoors.com/fairshare-mug.html). One liter volume, a screw on lid and some insulation (removable for washing). I use mine all the time on winter ski trips because food will actually stay warm in it, and if it falls over the lid will not leak. It is quite popular with polar expeditions: pour in contents of freeze dried meal, fill with hot water, stir and close the lid, and 10 min later -- just time for some tent-life chores -- your meal is hot and ready to eat. Yes, the tendency in those circles is to make every meal into a soup, since that alleviates the "not drinking enough" problem.

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
Years ago, I bought some plates, bowls, at, from West Marine...they have a rubber ring on the bottom which prevents them from sliding anywhere...
Works remarkably well.

Dog bowls because they don't tip over at an angle...

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
Having just gone down the 'Sea to Summit' rabbit hole linked to above I reckon these look pretty good

You don't need insulated containers. Cook hands tucker to crew - crew eat tucker - job done.

Dog bowls are good. We use a cat litter tray as a tray for passing stuff from the galley to the pilothouse. Deep sides if anything spills. We did buy a new one........................
We use for hot drinks and 'one pot' food Aladin insulated mugs. They have wide bottoms, narrower top, non skid rubber on the bottom and work really well. I stand a beer bottle in one and it does not fall over.
Tom Cunliffe says he really regretted selling some wooden bowls with a boat once. He never found anything as good for eating at sea in.

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
I have 6 nesting stainless steel bowls that are double walled and easy to hold when full of hot food, not too tippy, but nothing like a dog bowl. When on watch we don’t eat, that is before or after your watch…….

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
Last season, I bought sets of wheat straw plastic dinnerware sets from Bed, Bath & Beyond for galley usage. All plates, bowls, and dishes have a lip on them. They take heat and are easily cleaned. So far, so good...much better than metal (no burned hands), paper (collapsed plates and excess trash), or ceramic (breakage).

Re: Bowls for Passage Making
We use bamboo plates and bowls. Bed Bath Beyond. Cheap, floats, unbreakable, light.

Those all sound great. Don't make a big deal about it. My choice is anything that will not break, i.e. glass.
