Waking up in the morning on my boat and having a superb cup of coffee is like heaven to me.
I can't see myself on my boat drinking instant coffee! I buy the best fine grind coffee I can find and use a filter. I buy (no. 6) melita filters and cut them down for one cup or leave them as they are for lots of guests. I always buy better coffee for the boat than at home and the at home coffee is always high end anyhow.
I'm cheap and lazy in other places

If you have access to an Asian mart. They sell this ginger+ instant coffee. No milk / creamer needed for the golden brown effect and is an instant buzz. Cheap as well as it is about 2 bucks for 40 packets. / cups. Additionally - does not taste instant.

Colcafe

There is instant coffee that you can find in the South and Western Caribbean called Colcafe. Get the regular with the red lid. It's a very fine powder and dissolves immediately. I don't call myself a coffee snob, but this stuff is actually quite good. My sister came to visit and really liked it as well.

I agree that Nescafe "no es cafe."

Instant coffee is like lite beer -- you're better off with water and it tastes better

We make instant coffee during the day but breakfast and dinner time it has to be 'proper' coffee.
Nescafe 'Gold Blend' is what we stock for those day time, grab a quick mug moments.

I use a coffee press. Just as quick at the tea bag coffee and taste way better than instant. Got a small one (12 oz) at target for 5 bucks. Put one tablespoon of coffee in get one large mug of coffee out. French press

Have any of you tried concentrated liquid coffee? I've known its about but have not personally tried it. Just pour a measured amount into hot water and your done. I seem to recall it is possible to make your own. But a quick google for concentrated liquid coffee gives a lot of results. The following is just one link chosen at random.

The Nescafe espresso and cappuccino are the best instant coffees I ever tasted. But they do not taste as good as the real deal by far. We use a percolator while underway; not the US kind but the aluminium one that goes on the stove, called "mocha" in Italy.

cheers,
Nick.

Tea. That is the best instant coffee. Make it green and your body and mind will thank you for your choice.

We use an electric drip pot when we can run the inverter and a 6 cup espresso pot for that night-time demitasse, but we like Starbucks Via for "one-up' cups. You just can't have too much coffee!

I suspect...

All the instant coffee enthusiasts also have a favorite frozen TV dinner.
You've been had by the marketing geniuses.
