Re: Any Preppers ?

Here in Central Queensland Australia we occasionally get cyclones/floods. A year ago our town was cut off from all our supply routes, within a week the behaviour of quite normal abnormal citizens went bad, one instance was a local supermarket restricted the amount of loaves of locally made bread to two per family.

A woman grabbed the last four from the shelves and went to the check out only to be told she was restricted to two loaves. HER REACTION? she tossed the other two on the floor and stomped on them depriving anyone else of bread.

This was only one week down!!!! Week two bought people hoarding petrol, the queues were 60 vehicles long, the dumb thing was you could only drive 15 miles in any direction and our town has 20 or so fuel storage tanks, we are the depot for the central area!!!!

Yachties tend to prep by nature, our cupboards are always stocked with the basics/staple foods along with alternate ways of cooking etc. WHY? Because we are always prepared for what nature and circumstance throw at us, can't buy bread? = make it! Can't buy milk? = get the tinned or powdered or long life out of the cupboard.
It ain't rocket science it's just prepping so you can get by OR if you are on your boat you can stay out longer with no pressing need to GO SHOPPING!
End of the world? Nahhh as KATE said in post #17 I'll be well pissed if it coincides with us heading off!!!!

But didn't the late great Mr Hope compare Democrats to Zombies not Republicans?

Great line though!

Re: Any Preppers ?

Seriously, why wouldn't you want to be on a boat in the event of zombie apocalypse?

We always figured zombies can't swim, and even if they could would be fairly difficult for them to scale the outside of many hulls.

Our personal zombie survival plan is to make for pea patch island in the Delaware river. Current would whisk away anything walking across the bottom, and Fort Delaware out there is fairly defensible with a good moat.

Oh, pardon me. I was born in 1971, not 1917... so I am somewhat uninformed as to anything that Bob Hope may have said. Glad that he is still relevant with the older group here

I always though Bob had a bit of a zombie like characteristic about him.

Anyway, let's get off the political patch, ageist comments and general grumpiness and back on to the all important subject of how to survive in the unlikely event that the world is going to end but somehow the folks with sailboats will be spared.

Thanks for you cooperation.

Happens every night when the waterfront bars close.

But seriously. I once worked with a doomsday survivalist who had tons of food and water stowed away. I told him I didn't need all that stuff because when the crunch came, I was going to load up my shotgun and go steal his.

He was not amused. Then he said he would be mining his driveway.

That was forty years ago. I hope he's been rotating that stuff.

Don't laugh, that's alway been my prepper plan!

Re: Any Preppers ?

Ze big problemz are: overpopulation, lack of potable water, dwindling crude oil and natural gas reserves which require more production costs than prior decades, and dwindling supply of arable land suitable for crop production as well as the lack of food to feed the world (much of which does not eat now). There's also Global Warming? and the threat of nuclear war! Any suggestions for addressing these problems now??

Re: Any Preppers ?

Clearly not enough people here have read the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks. A boat is considered by the experts to be the best place to survive the coming zombie apocalypse.

I don't prep for the end of time but I do a lot of prep for a 6 month cruise.

Re: Any Preppers ?

I think a boat is excellent place to be.
Not in every scenario - moored in fukashima - not good.
But if you have to leave quick- nothing better than a boat.
Forget driving.
We are all loaded with food, and water and ways to get more.
Water, Fish and Fowl - easy.
Having guns, seems like a good idea too.
However, many of the so called experts say its a bad idea. And try to teach people how to use solar, wind, batteries, inverters etc...
