Nevertheless, congratulations to the engineer. Nice job, done quickly and no doubt under a fair bit of pressure to produce a solution to a problem not of his making.

I can't being to image what the consequences might be if the caffeine didnt flow for a morning or two; muntiny would have been a blessing...

Wottie, the coffee is even better! Richer, without any bitterness still. I should write to Aeropress and suggest they modify their design. Maybe for a small percentage of the profits? .

Nay Lassie, ye be selling yaself short.

Demand a large percentage else ye be going agin em in the market place with ye bespoke press.

Besides engineering R&D is already done at no (or little ) cost to yaself.

My chief engineer has done a brilliant job . The replacement 'cap' works flawlessly.

The system comprises a piece of thick ply with a hole drilled in the centre just a touch larger than the main body of the Aeropress, so that it sits on the flange at the base. Four bolts with wing nuts secure this to a plate of aluminium. 76 3.2mm holes have been drilled to correspond with the centre of the plunger.

The aluminium sheet is smooth, so the contact is good, but the paper acts as a gasket. The trick is to tighten the wing nuts sufficiently to stop any leakage at the sides without overdoing it and cracking the plastic flange.

More than just a jury rig :
Proof positive that your husband REALLY REALLY loves you! But we knew that already!

Have sent you an invitation to the facebook Aeropressers page with more details of the filter

Re: Aeropress Help Needed Please

I'm going to the UK in a couple of weeks, would you like me to get a spare cap and post it to you once we are back in Greece (got to be quicker than waiting for post from the UK). I'm also going to get us a second Aeropress, just in case!

I will have to find some additional way of repaying him for this labour of love .

Oh, yes please . I have learned that even express delivery from the UK can occasionally be weeks and we don't want to risk having to hang around anywhere that long in summer.
I will email you.

Each hole will represent a year of your marriage.

PS When you ran out of holes to count just have him punch new ones. ))

I use a French press. No filters to buy or waste. Easy-peasy.
