10 month layup, what to do with water tanks??

Hey all

We are laying up for 10 months and would like your opinion if you have had success or failure also putting a boat on the hard.

In Grenada- it’s really hot. All year, it’s hot..,

Wondering about what to do with the water in the tanks? Last time we did this, the tanks got fouled ( no added bleach) and it took quite a bit to get them clean.
Would you fill the tanks and add bleach? The RO is pickled and would not be affected by the bleach…
Would you nearly drain the water and leave some bleach in the remaining 10 gallons?

What has worked for you.?

Thanks very much!

One way or the other. Nothing in between.

Either fill those things to the top with tons of bleach in it as well, or drain them completely and dry them out and clean them out to the inspection ports.

The trouble with long-term storage of water is that the bleach tends to go bad and become less effective over time. So it is best to just drain them completely out and have dry tanks.

The wisdom I live by is keep the diesel tanks full and the water tanks empty when leaving the boat for a longer time.

When coming back, fill it up a bit more with some cleaning agent and hope it's enough, otherwise clean it manually.

We blow our tanks and water lines dry with compressed air. Nothing for anything to grow in.
