Yacht Mushka abandoned NW of Estrecho de Magallanes

I had been watching this yacht for some weeks on Marinetraffic.com as she approached South America. After very slow progress for some days she disappeared from the plot several days ago... now we know why.

Some interesting stuff about stepping off onto a passing freighter and on scuttling your wee ship.... I think I would cut the galley drain rather than the engine cooling intake.....

His first major solo voyage and he tackles Cape Horn. Cajones.

Not a great place to get stuck with only 25 gallons of fuel.

.. There are not a lot of reasons I'd welcome getting that close to that big boy.
Sound end of Chile, no mast, no fuel, thats a pretty good one. I suppose after what hes been thru, the prospect of seeing a monster coming at you would be a welcome sight.

If you look at his website it seems he was already suffering a bit. Hard to imagine what it must be like down there sometimes. I'm too old to try now...... thank goodness !!! Or is 72 the new 42 ??? better just to have that nightmare in bed before sleep. I spent some time fishing in the Southern Ocean but in steel boats over 100ft, watertight bulkheads etc, and it was no joke. We feared for our lives on quite a few occasions and the oldest aboard was the skipper........ an old man at 30.
