Whiich design's faster Cutter or Schooner?

The schooner was designed for speed, but it seems the cutter's won the speed trials. Which design's faster?

And, how long does it take to sail down to Florida from Maine? To Long Island from Maine?

Why not ask which car is faster, a 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder.

4 cylinder Porsche beats a 6 cylinder Pinto. 6 cylinder Porsche beats a 4 cylinder Camry.

Re: Whiich design's faster Cutter or Schooner?

First, thanks for the times info. And, what's the name of the starting point in Maine on the chart?

Doesn't seem to be a Pomponio Point back there.

Meanwhile, the question was in fact interpretative; but to the point of design. I guess the schooner, faster by larger reach has more pulling power for a long time with all those sails. I read that the abundance of sails on a schooner sometimes slowed her down. We used to win races in our 36 foot sloop against schooners and ketch boats all the time. Champs of the K class, San Franciso out of Tiburon: Tilly Whim.

And like the man wrote, those races were of a close reach. But n'arey a cutter. So, I wondered.

And, by comparison, the navagator makes a dif, too.

Without meaning to be a picky grinch, the OP has started another thread to discuss the respective speeds of cutters and schooners and a third one to discuss sailing times between Maine and Florida :

it might pay him (and be less confusing for us) to either ask the moderators to combine them all into one thread, or stick to one thread per topic (two, by my count)
