Trucking a Cape Dory 30

I am writing a journal of the journeys of the Cape Dory 30, SV The Kestrel. On this post, I write about how we trucked her 635 miles from Redding, CA to Temecula, CA. Trucking her home - Marine World Classifieds

Anyone planning to do this, I can definitely answer questions regarding my process. I'll be happy to.

Wow, that looked like quite a jaunt -- couldn't tell, was your truck a 3/4 or one-ton...

To be honest, before the move I was intimidated as fudge. I have a 3/4 ton truck. But being able to go through this gives me the confidence to move her around now. Maybe trailer her to the sea of cortez side and launch her there .

The things we have to face and do for our dreams.

I have a Cape Dory 28 and on the scales it's almost 10,000 pounds, I wouldn't want to try and tow it very far with a 3/4 ton pickup, especially if there might be a small hill.

In hindsight, I would have done a full inspection of the truck, did not have any issues with torque or power, the turck is a 5.9 Cummins, my idler pulley just got stuck making the truck overheat as I was making the final push home about 100 miles away.

Having gone trough this is an invaluable lesson in my sailing life journey though.
