Top 10 Instructional Books

Hi All,
I've compiled a list of some of my favorite instructional books on sailing. Is there a book that helped you learn what you needed to know to get out there?

Re: Top 10 Instructional Books

Singlehanded Sailing - Richard Henderson

Cruisers Handbook Nigel Calder (great info on boat layouts & systems, plus basic charting easier to read than Chapmans)

Boatowners Manual for Mechanical & Electrical Systems Nigel Calder (because if your boat systems don't work, you don't get to go out to sail )

I included those on the list of reference books for offshore sailing.

When you put it that way, I guess my answer is "no", but a book I always recommend to people who want to improve their knowledge of sail trim and rigging is: Illustrated Sail & Rig Tuning, by Ivar Dedekam

Bowditch. It does not teach you how to sail specifically but has more information about navigation and many other watercraft related things than you will ever need. It's called the "navigators Bible" for good reason.

It wasn't my intent to peruse your blog, rather to answer your question as stated.

If you want more answers, then what I would do is a search on this forum on "books", perhaps you've done that already in compiling your list.

Good luck.

I thought this book would have been included

"The Complete book of Anchoring and Mooring" by Earl R. Hinz

I like Calder and the Dashews.

I think I owe something to good mags too: YM, PBO, mostly.

I think those youtube test/crash boat videos are fantastic too - I believe YM made them.
