Re: To Tack or Jibe?

IMHO -
Wind in front of abeam - tack
Wind behind of abeam - jibe.
The rest is practice & technique.

Re: To Tack or Jibe?

Reminds me of the youth trials on Otago Harbour, Dunedin, New Zealand late 1970's. Lasers and blowing 40 + knots - Russell Coutts was way in front , Alan Garbutt (? spelling) was in second & myself in third. Wing mark - Alan decided to tack around, I knew I would can out regardless, so gybed. We both went over, but at least I came up facing the right way.
