Thrown off the Boat

Talk about lucky. A couple were thrown off their boat (no life jackets) and treaded water for 14 hours until the were rescued by some passing fishermen.
Florida couple rescued after treading water for 14 hours, authorities say | Fox News
No details on how they both landed in the water. But, certainly makes the case for always wearing a lifejacket.

What, people only/primarily fall out of power boats in contrast to sailboats?

Re: Thrown off the boat

Very lucky. I have never seen anyone around my marina go out with a life jacket on and I am sure some cant swim. Infact I knew commercial fishermen who couldn't swim and one drowned in front of my beach house when his prawn trawler snagged and flipped over. For those who might want to trip me up, I always wear a life jacket and have a plb strapped to my belt.

I picked up a lady who had been in the water for less than an hour recently, off Southern California. I doubt she would have lived thru a second hour. Damn lucky we found her!

Island Hopper 30

What, people only/primarily fall out of power boats in contrast to sailboats?
WSVN reported that 50-year-old Sean McGovern and 52-year-old Mellisa Morris were spotted seven miles off the coast of Hallandale Beach, Fla., just south of Hollywood. The U.S. Coast Guard said the pair had fallen off their 30-foot boat in Key Largo at around 6 p.m. Friday. Officials said the two did not have any life vests or means of communicating with nearby boaters.

Where does it say 'Island Hopper'... also folk don't get 'thrown' outa sail boats.. get a real sailboat and try it sometime..

Says fell out. And for the record we don't get thrown out of our power boats. Of course we are sober and wear vests in questionable conditions.

Oh and I've known people to get hit by a boom and go flying out of a sail boat. Not very good sailors. But then power or sail, these weren't very good.

Island Hopper: From the link contained in the referenced article. ... The only time I've fallen out of a boat was when a jibing boom gently bumped me in the rump and pushed me in.

great, more ammo for the coast guard to use to mandate lifejacket wear... ffs can't they just realize that for Darwin's theory to work they can't interfere with the survival of the fittest?

This is making less sense as you guys discuss it.

Key Largo to Hallendale is close to 100 miles. According to this discussion, in 14 hours during which they were swimming, they traveled at a speed greater than that most sailboats go!

I love internet experts!
