Think your dock shot was bad?

Even the high payed pros get it wrong once in a while.

Judging by the flags, it looks like the thrusters couldn’t overcome the windage. That thing is 10 stories high and doesn’t have a lot of hull in the water to keep it from going sideways.

How do they keep those things with the shiny white side up? Shallow draft and 10 stories tall, you'd think the metacentric height would be a negative number.

I had a college consultant work at the biggest cruise ship yard in Europe many years ago. He was working with the design team in engineering. He told me that they submitted for a big cruise ship contract and won.

It was only after winning the contract that they did the detailed stability calculations and found out they needed to increase the beam of the ship with 2 feet to comply with regulations.

They build the ship with the increased beam, but never got paid for it.
Expensive!!!

And maybe a bad bridge passage to round it out.

Yeah, but its got lots of HP and 3 thrusters on that side...wonder if maybe they had a mechanical issue.

Re: Think your dock shot was bad?

That bridge accident happens just this week here in St Maarten. I didn’t see it but drive by the boat, Extasea, daily. I think that was an observation platform that they did not pick up, oopsies. No one was hurt, bridge operator jumped out. The control panel was located under the operator shack. Luckily the controls were not damaged and they put a tarp or something over them to keep the water out.

Apparently the same thing happened a few years back.
