Sailing Zatara causing some Pacific ripples

https://matangitonga.to/2020/07/04/a...-sailing-tonga

Just read this Tongan article referencing the Sailing Zatara crew heading out of NZ. Seemed like a bad idea heading North during lockdown... but I guess YouTube needs feeding...

Making YouTube videos pays better than mask cosplay, besides the crew appears to be in good health, risk of death seems very low, threat matrix wise I’d agree with their call, they are much more economically at risk than physically at risk, especially seeing how there are still a good amount of people hiding at home bored watching YouTube. Bills don’t pay themselves, adventures don’t happen hiding at home.

Re: Sailing Zatara causing some Pacific ripples

these rules are in place for a reason,ie to stop transmission.
you would not try to import a pet or plants illegally into NZ ,UK or AUZ why should it be any different for potentially infected people.?

I shudder to think of the Minervas with them on the hook for even a week.

Yes. Little risk of them carrying the virus. Only risks are losing some viewers... and damaging the reputation of the many NZ cruisers who stayed home this season. Our Pacific Island neighbours have a right to be edgy given the recent measles outbreak, a poor health system and their history of disease brought by foreign vessels.. but when they see the fantastic videos of another yacht in Minerva reef the Tongans will probably feel much more differently about cruisers.

Like all the “protesters” who are destroying monuments, blocking roads, burning, vandalism and calling everyone a “racist”?

YouTube has a very odd sense of what is cool and what they smash with their censor hammer.

I’d say with the time they spend at sea that should be good enough to show not being sick, plus if you don’t have symptoms, shy of you making out with everyone or licking other people’s utensils, not likely to spread anything

Re: Sailing Zatara causing some Pacific ripples

Seems arrogant to believe that they can just gate crash into another country that has clearly said we are closed. Do what everyone else has been doing for 3 months, follow the rules and do their bit to stop Covic.

From the article:

"The Whitakers tell their viewers that they didn't want to winter over in New Zealand because they would have nothing interesting to film"

Northing to film in the whole of NZ, really? How about doing some winter sailing like that Swedish guy who is sailing the top end of Norway, Alluring Arctic. Really different and challenging

Such a silly anti logic made up word, it’s called a baseline. And yes, I posted other facts as well.

Their country their rules, that said nothing wrong with calling out silly rules, I mean we have protests going on all over for government overreach right now for just that.

You get to define your baseline? Why does it need a baseline?

How about just focusing on the topic at hand which is flouting local rules?

sounds like a personification of the "Ugly American" stereotype,..or one rule for the indians, another rule for the cowboys.

Re: Sailing Zatara causing some Pacific ripples

The issue is why risk it? Imagine if Tonga confiscates the boat and sends them home? That's well within Tonga's rights and would set a good example to other rule breakers. No one is going to argue that Corona is a killer so why even chance it being brought into your country? We have only one case here in Queensland and I would fully support our goverment flying these guys home if they turned up in one of our ports.
I am sure Trump will step in and give these guys a character reference!
Cheers

That’s not very nice.

Nor does it make much sense

The good thing is that now they've left they definitely can't come back, so we're happy.
