If you remove the little oval cover shown in your picture you can apply 12V from the boat's supply and see if that brings it to life.
If that brings it to life but the battery won't charge then you either have to convert to plugged-in use or toss it, replacing the battery not intended.

All tacktick instruments that have 3.2v batteries actually work from the batteries themselves even if they have a 12v power source (for charging). No battery, or a dead battery and the device won't work.
Yes, I have one that no longer holds a real charge, but is there enough that when plugged in it works. Not a chance of running it on solar, the battery simply won't hold anything significant anymore, but plugged in it exists enough to let it run.
I have a mn 100-2 display that works and takes a solar charge. It is the unit that also handles 4 ttansducers.
