Have a mate that uses a system similar. He has 60' of chain on 5/8" mulyi-plat.
He attempts to anchor in 5 fathoms, drops the hook until all the chain settles on the ground extended, then pulls up a foot or two to lift the connection off the mud.
Seems to work very well for him.
