Post mortem

We were on Erie the day this happened, our weather alarm going off every few minutes. The coast guard said over and over again something like "Get off the $&%$#! lake now." The sky looked onimous.

When we heard this over the radio we assumed some of them drowned. Sailing to a schedule?

Not surprised to hear this. This "school" isn't really legit. Anyone who's ever been there knows how they operate. After 3 lessons you're basically allowed to teach others how to sail in exchange for free boat rentals.
What was the weather? "Stormy" is pretty vague.

By the time they went out on the lake severe thunderstorms with up to 80 mph winds, predicted waterspouts and hail were breaking out across north eastern Lake Erie as a front moved over. This was a well forecast event.

Wed afternoon into evening on and around Lake Erie was BAD...tornados, hurricane force winds in scattered spots, 3" inches of rain an hr. etc..

Obviously Buffalo is east of us, and the weather came from the west, and maybe they didn't get it as bad, but going out there with students? Nuts..

Damn, that is nasty. Even half of that is a bit much for a boat of that size.
