Please recommend a book

Hi

I've always loved the sea and will hopefully learn to sail this year.

i've read a little over the years but I'd really like to read a good, informative book about the sea, tradewinds, sailing etc

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Many thanks!

My favorite book of all time is called The Circumnavigators by Holm. It is no longer in print, but I have seen copies of it scanned online. It's a great collection of sailing stores about circumnavigators before the advent of go fast yachts.

If you can search google, you may be able to read it online.

Ahoy, inland! Welcome to CF (Cruisers Forum).

One book I've not had a chance to finish yet but am really looking forward to is "The Natural Navigator" by Tristan Gooley. It's really popular.

Most people who read it either love it or hate it. Either way most of them say it has a lot of interesting content and sound advice for learning to navigate the natural world by both land and sea. It sounds like an interesting read in general.

Enjoy!

I love the three volumes on cruising written by the Hiscocks. Lots of practical advice and well written. I wish I could have met them in person.

Re: Please recommend a book

Read Adrift by Steven Callahan.

He "sailed" the Trade Winds about 3/4 of the way across the Atlantic in a 6 man Avon Life Raft after his sailboat hit something and sank.

I believe he was sailing along about 17 North.
