Just thought that beaded repeating.
7-10 meters of water and 50 METERS of chain.

I was gonna make the same comment because this is the second time it’s been brought up since the correction.

Re: Mystery useless anchor – can you identify it?

My vulcan is 25kg on 41' boat. It is a high performing modern anchor. But it does not like short scope, because of the projection thru the bottom, it just waddles around. Sometimes a high performing anchor at short scope is real handy. I bought the anchor because otherwise I wouldn't be able to get a bow sprit on, to fly a light weather sail.
Think a anchor with a bow does not clear mud as well as anchors that don't.

Once I dragged and it would not reset, not even letting out more chain. Started the engine to slow my rate of speed it reset then. Had a good clean up the next day and found a new spot.
Prefer a better anchor but $$$?, I make do with 2 anchor alarms.

After 15 years with 35 CQR as main bower switched to Vulcan 25 and now sleep nights. Vulcan sets so quickly you need to be holding on. Harder to retrieve as digs in so deeply. Holds in 50 knot gales at 5:1 no problem.

Re: Mystery useless anchor – can you identify it?

You also missed the part (implied) that it was a charter boat, so suggestions to replace with XYZ anchor is mostly useless!!

I remember the tale of the Jacques Cousteau boat (not Calypso) anchored in southern Chile with a 35 pound CQR. Someone asked about the small anchor in storm conditions and the skipper said, "The Chain! It is the chain." And they used 1/2" chain that allowed their small anchor to hold secure.
