yep. Tuck in a double reef, run the traveler down a bit, take out a load of the heeling factor, and not be rounding up out of control would seem like a good plan.

Not to mention making things a lot more comfortable for the multiple non sailors on board.

Taking a load of the rudder and the fittings and cable.

Plus, putting all of that lack of seamanship out there for the world to witness.

On the other hand, there are a lot of grins and smiles, along with a few screaming females clutching life jackets to make of a good sea story at the harbor side marina bar.

Wide transom, single rudder and a gust. As the boat heels, the rudder is leveraged out of the water. T'is the reason why twin rudders became fashionable. Once used to it, you can reduce sail pressure, but the first time, it can come as a surprise.
