Dorian attacks GALAWA II in Freeport, Bahamas
I left GALAWA II in Bradford Marina, Freeport, Bahamas for the summer and adjourned to France
Dorian is taking her on.
As of Monday September 2, we wait and see
As we can do nothing else.

Wow, that must be frustrating! Best wishes! It's not looking good from here, though.

Re: Dorian attacks GALAWA II in Freeport, Bahamas
Well, if you hear from Bradford will you pass on any info. I'm right next to the gate. Our boats may survive but it's nearly impossible to not have some serious damage. I think the storm surge will have spared us as it would have come across the huge mounds of dredged sand from the north and drain out the channel. It will be the wind. Here is a screenshot I took from NHC. We are literally on the edge of the eye.

Re: Dorian attacks GALAWA II in Freeport, Bahamas
Was your boat attached to the ground?
GALAWA was on the high point, I believe 3.5 meters above mean low sea level.
But was this enough when westerly winds pushed the sea intoi the harbour ?
I dare not ask so soon for information about our boats' fate as the staff of Bradford Marine must be mourning their assets , if not members of their family.

Yes it was strapped down. I think almost all were. We were there last week to check out the paint job Bradford did. All the cats are at about the same elevation. I think that is you in the background.

GALAWA's hulls are coper coated and look brown
GALAWA is be the next boat east, with the radar antenna attached on the port spreader

Dorian attacks GALAWA II in Freeport, Bahamas
Dorian is an extremely intense storm, but also sort of small.
I’m hoping with a CPA of 80NM, you guy’s may be OK.
Personally I don’t like straps though, they stretch.
There was a Mesoconvective Thunderstorm years ago in Ft Hood that did hundreds of millions of dollars of damage to aircraft, largely cause they were held down with cargo straps, that stretched and broke.
After that we always chained them down with gold transport chain. (G70)
Still if you only saw 80 kts, that’s not all that bad, not compared to the 200 kts at the eye wall anyway. So maybe your OK, hoping anyway.

Not to be picky as I feel your pain but are nhc wind speeds quoted in knots or mph? I have in my mind mph sustained over 1 min. And if max winds were 185 mph that would be approx 155 knots. Never mind gusts-------Sounds better than 200 no? 😊
We are in South Africa and GAIA is in central Florida in the water. As we cannot do anything either when Dorian's path was almost unknown for awhile, we worried as well.

Where is the report that say 70% is gone? Might they mean flooded,at present?

Freeport ? Isn't that synonymous to Atlantis ? I never heard of a worse storm giving any one place a pounding for so long ! And you have a boat there ? Good Luck !

It might matter after the storm leaves. If it is flooded, in theory the waters will recede and the rebuilding process can begin.
If the island is "gone" then in theory it would mean washed away and rebuilding would be unlikely.
You are certainly correct that in the middle of the storm it is unlikely to matter, but it may later.

I understand how you feel, but for those who live and work there and their future prospects, of course it does. There is also the never ending battle between truth and gossip, which affects us all. So yes.
