Although not answering your question, I installed a CPT wheel pilot for this purpose, as well. I'm mostly single hand and I need to be able to use the head, grab some water or grab some food. For longer periods of time, I heave to and actually quite like it. The added benefit of the CPT wheel pilot, or any autopilot for that matter, would be the assistance during tacking maneuvers. This has proven invaluable to me as I work my way up wind by myself.
