Crimson Polaris Breaks in Half

A hard grounding can ruin your day. Or maybe they just didn't check the keel bolts?

The front half of the ship could be taken in tow and delivered to its destination! Sure looks like a very clean break.

There was one M6 screw on the bridge, near the front, with a little sticker saying DO NOT REMOVE. Looks like someone removed it...

Evidently, the vessel encountered a steering problem, and was washed ashore by strong winds. Media reports indicated that the captain reported losing control, although NYK said, in a statement, that the vessel had anchored outside the port, due to the severe weather.

Re: Crimson Polaris Breaks in Half

The home office let the captain know that they were considering increasing the size of their fleet. Captain said "I can do that for you, now you have two ships. If I'm in charge of both of them does that make me an admiral?"

I suspect it makes him unemployed.

Meh. Ships are safe.

Not this one, mind you.

I was thinking more of the ones where the back doesn't fall off.

Well, what sort of standards are these oil tankers built to?
Oh, very rigorous … maritime engineering standards.
What sort of things?
Well the back’s not supposed to fall off, for a start.

The hold section, full of wood chips, isn't likely to sink unless they get waterlogged.
