Another sailor lost to racing near Los Angeles

I always thought sailing off Southern California was a pleasant, safe endeavor, but then these things keep happening.

I'm sorry for the loss of life.

Never considered racing to be pleasant... or safe come to that...
pushing the limits is hard work...

There are some other threads about this around here. Here's the longest, I think.

Re: Another sailor lost to racing near Los Angeles

sailing california is sailing a lee shore of rocks, is never safe and is never the same twice.
the san pedro channel and santa barbara channel are very treacherous in windy stormy weather. not to be taken lightly.
is same all the way from alaska to south america---
and racing is never a safe endeavor.

Actually, this makes 10 sailors in 12 months! All of it due to over confidence in abilities or systems. Way too much hubris out there. Neptune doesn't rule, Murphy does.
