Anchor Size

Hi guys how big of an anchor would i need for a PVC dingy anchored in sand in Jamaica Bay NY or close in to shore lets say 50 feet from shore max and the rig weighing 100 lbs. The same question for a Jet Ski weighing 600 to 700 lbs and 10 feet long. I personally weigh 160. How much rope would i need to reach bottom?

Well, a rope length equal to the depth less the length of the anchor will "reach bottom".

I think you need to rephrase your question, for as it stands it is kinda vague!

Re: Anchor Size

There was recently a thread about the size and type of anchor suitable for dinghies. The current favorite seems to be a Mantus dinghy anchor, and IIrC it weighs a couple of kilos. That same anchor would likely do for the jet ski under moderate conditions, but a larger one would be better if you wish to anchor during high winds or bigger seas.

The length of rode should be around 7 times the deepest depth in which you will want to anchor your craft.

The Mantus anchor mentioned above is a modern, kinda high tech design. If you should choose an older design, like a plow or grapnel (often used for dinghies but not recommended by me), a larger and heavier anchor would be needed. Design definitely matters in anchors!
