Anchor Bridal to stop yawing

I currently own a Hunter 38 which sails up and down when at anchor. I use a 10mm chain with 16mm x 50 m rode combo to offset any snatching in heavy weather and have heard of using a bridal to help minimise the constant yawing,Firstly does a bridal minamise yaw ?and secondly how does one attach the bridal to the anchor rode? using a full chain one can use a mantas hook etc.

In my experience a bridle on a mono doesn't help much, if any due to the narrow bow, but it still might be worth a try, you can rolling hitch a bridle line onto your warp, or use a dyneema prussic loop.

Other approach's might be to rig a riding sail aft, drop another anchor or a pile of chain under the bow, or hook some sort or drag device, like a big fender onto the warp near the bow.

The stretch of the warp is a big part of the problem. More chain would help reduce sailing at anchor.

i think a woman in a white wedding dress isnt gonna be any help at all. nor will the bridal party, which is made of women in dresses supporting the bride.

you might consider a BRIDLE, however, as yawing, which is what you are complaining about, is damped by a BRIDLE.,
and there are many threads on this topic. you can see them when you speel the word bridle correctly.

I often use two chain snubbers as a bridle on my P424, but it does little to stop the sailing at anchor. It does provide a fair lead on the snubber that is taking most of the strain when the boat sails to one side or the other. A single snubber can sometimes rub against the stem.
So I use two snubbers when the boat is sailing a lot at anchor, but not to have any significant effect on that sailing.

Edited to add: Here is a link to a picture of that bridle arrangement. As you can see the angle between the snubbers is very small and does not exert much a restraining force on the sailing at anchor.

We've found that dragging a bucket or two off the transom helps to stop yawing around at anchor. Make sure they have strong handles!

Running a snubber off to one side cured the problem for me over the last 25yrs. it holds the stem slightly off the wind.

Interesting ... we always set two snubbers; rolling hitches to chain, tied to port and stbrd bow cleats. They're closely but not evenly set. This arrangement definitely dampens yawing on our full keeler. Although I have to admit, it's not a bit issue for our boat.

If you really want to stop hunting at anchor, try anchoring off the stern. Your boat will sit still at anchor and you can up anchor by your self from the cockpit.

Can you explain this more clearly? I'm not certain I understand your diagram. Our boat sails, at times, up to 45 degrees in a strong blow. We have tried every combination known to civilized Man. Perhaps you can provide a less civilized approach? Perhaps this concern with "civilized" has been our problem since the beginning. Thanks

I'd hate to retrieve my hook from the stern in a strong blow with building waves unless you have a double-ender. Have you tried it?

Run a line from an amidships cleat to a point on your anchor line and make roughly an equilateral triangle out of the geometry? Basically establish a baseline between your bow and the amidships cleat. Kinda like a breast line, but I don't know the correct term. Snubber?

Solitaire dances at anchor like a drunken gypsy.... Stern (instead of bow) anchoring works very well in light weather. Other option we use is a riding sail on the backstay. Cheap one here... Anchor Riding Sail
