Young Salt - It's in the Blood :)

I did not grow up on boats, nor was I taught by anyone how to sail - nor have I been encouraged in anyway - Yet somehow I love the water and I've always been drawn to the ocean. I'm in the process of buying my own boat out here in beautiful Vancouver, BC. My father tells me I come from a long line of sea captains - 7 brothers, to be exact, in Nova Scotia who sailed tall ships about 150 hundred years ago. My grandfather was a sailor, but not my Dad. For whatever the reason, I must be on the water and without being brought up in it or taught how to do things properly without getting killed - I find myself searching out as much info as I can - and then I found this wonderful forum!
We all start somewhere I suppose
Been sailing dingies for a few years now and I'm ready to move up so I can start taking my family out.

Go for it and yes - its in the blood
If I were you I'd get as much history and stories about your seafaring family so you can pass it down to your kids.
Cheers and happy sailing,
Erika

PS
My mom's a sailor, I am a sailor, and now I find my neice is a natural aboard my boat. So the tradition lives on but on the girl's side for some reason. Maybe we have a Lady pirate in our family history.

Enjoy it Tasha and welcome to the site.

Be sure to appreciate the fun you'll have getting to grips with it all - that is THE BEST part of sailing for sure.

Cheers
JOHN
