West Marine Dinghy Transom

Greetings from Traverse City, MI! I am new to the forum and wondered if anyone can help me out. I have an 8' dinghy, West Marine Groupe Zodiac Model RU-260. It is kind of beat up, but I want to make it new again. I tore apart the old rotted transom and cleaned out the insides where the transom goes in the sides. The little spindles inside are pretty complex and wondered if anyone had some ideas for replacing the transom or better yet- know where I can get a cut out template for this model so I can be precise on my cuts into the new piec of marine grade plywood I bought... Any suggestions are appreciated. I plan to get the new transom in and fiberglass the around the transom holders and possibly put bolts into it to hold the transom further... Help!!

Re: West Marine dinghy transom questions

Welcome Lanaki
I just goggled your model and found this (Floor Slats (6) for RU 260 Inflatable (Zodiac) - Replacement Parts) maybe this will help, I have a 1999 zodiac and had a dealer fix a couple of things on mine the cost was reasonable for what they did.

Good Luck

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Hope you can find someone with the same model so they can make a pattern for you. I always caution folks who are dismantling their boats interiors to save the old beat up plywood for a pattern.
kind regards,

Hello,
Did you ever get the transom replaced?

Hi, OnTheWater2,

This thread is 11 yrs. old, and they didn't come back. The original poster had only one post.

If you have a dinghy that needs a new transom, proceed with caution. Generally people hire out work like transom replacement, because you really need to get all the shapes right. If you have the skills necessary for that, already, you could give it a go yourself. Read up on dinghy repair, and how to distinguish pvc from hypalon, so you get the glues right.

Re: West Marine Dinghy Transom

I did this once on an old zodiac. I had the old rotten transom as a template. I spent many hours on this project, it was very messy and difficult to get the lower corners watertight between transom and tubes, then another seam came apart, in the end I gave up and bought a new alloy bottom Highfield.

Welcome to CruisersForum!

I would suggest updating your profile with your general location and your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
