Welcome from Whangarei
Hi. We are David and Susanne Ames. We are originally from Olympia, WA (south of Seattle), bought our 1973 catamaran Cheshire in Cornwall, and have sailed her to New Zealand with as many stops as we could manage in the South Pacific. We like it so much that we are planning to stay in the area for a while, working in Whangarei to top up the kitty. We are the SSCA cruising hosts for Whangarei and are happy to welcome and help all visiting cruisers.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Susanne (& David).
Your cross-referencing (cross-fertilising) information between our forum and the Seven Seas Cruising Association could fertalize both venues, and benefit all cruisers.

Aloha Susanne and David,
Welcome aboard! I used to drink Oly when I was in high school. Was my favorite for a lot of years. Even went to the brewing plant once.
Anyway, great to see you out cruising and having a great time. That's a good advertisement for Whangerei.

BTW, OlyWA is another nice place to visit on a boat. Rather like Whangarei in many respects – the town is organized around the harbour, it is large enough to offer decent food (and excellent coffee), lots of services within walking distance or a short drive.
Alas, the brewery is gone. I don’t know if the plant has been purchased and made over – last I heard a condition of sale was that it could not be used for a brewery again. A major change for the area – I think about half the residents of Tumwater worked there. Someone was interested in making it a plant for bottled water – so they could still use the old slogan "It's the water" ;>)...
I’m trying to get the logs of our trip to New Zealand posted on svcheshire.blogspot.com. I have gotten our routes posted on the Google maps linked off that site.
I’m enjoying the discussions on this site, especially the multihull threads.

Welcome to the forum 
Whangarei is one of the places I want to sail to. My Parents sailed around the world and the only place I thought they'd never leave is Whangarei, so I know I have to check it out. Have fun and agian, welcome to the forum..

Washed up in Whangarei...
At present, Cheshire is hauled out at Dockland 5. We had persistent patches of osmosis, and found that it went to the boundary between the fairing layer and the fibreglass. So we stripped the boat to the glass below the waterline, applied a new layer of glass with vinylester, and are now in the process of building up the fairing again.
We’d like to be back at Town Basin, where we were in summer ’08, but it will probably be awhile...
