Vacation/Learning

Hi all, I'm really interested in sailing. Never done it before. I'm looking to learn and vacation at the same time. Does anyone know where I can look for a paid vacation on a boat where they teach everything? Scuba, sailing, and whatever else I can absorb. The scuba I hope to accomplish before I go out. I'm landlocked and looking for December excursion (hopefully 2 weeks to a month long). Any info a plus and helpful. Thank-you.

Hi, sublime,

There is a service like that operated out of Airlie Beach, Qld. I bet if you google it, you could find it. You can get scuba qualified here in about 4 days. December is summer here, the water is warm.

Re: Vacation/Learning

Where are you located? I will assume US.

I would head on over to Miramar Sailing

Antigua Day Sailing, Training, Vacations & Yacht Racing Charter

And you could look at RYA Competent Crew for one week, and then follow it with a RYA Day Skipper, one week live aboard. That will make it two weeks live aboard and you will learn a lot in a fantastic beautiful place.

The diving? Don't over reach mate. Just pencil in the checkout dives apart from the sailing, do the theory and pool work back home.

Not me paid, I pay for vacation and learning.

Thank you very much. And you are probably right, I'll try to achieve my scuba before hand.

Re: Vacation/Learning

Check out Blackbeard Cruises out of Nassau in the Bahamas. It's a week long dive cruise on live aboard sailboats. I think you do have to be a certified diver prior but I don't know for sure. It's worth a look.

No, I'm not affiliated with them in any way; haven't even gone myself. Just seen them around.
