Uk Newby

Hello Fellow SeaFarers
Im Joe and took the plunge into sailing back in Feb2021, purchasing a Bavaria44 after selling up in the uk . Its been an emotional journey from purchasing to refitting the vessel, steep learning curve getting to grips and understanding all of the amazing ways sailing pushes every aspect of the human from emotional, physical to becoming a skipper whilst keeping a cool head whilst things might not be going to plan .
After my girlfriend and myself had taught ourselves the basics and more we decided August 2021 to move to the next level and sail "HAVASUPAI" from Brighton to Scilly Isles and back to Brighton taking us further into this amazing journey. We Spent 6weeks at sea with our 2Spaniels staying at various Marinas, Buoys and Anchorages .What a journey of self acheivement ,friendships made and beautiful locations that truly humbled us.

We are now planning our next departure in April 2022 down the south coast , up the west coast and into the Caledonian Canal where our new berth at Inverness will be .
Hoping to get advice from others here on our passage plan and possibly any crew that might fancy joining us on yhis new adventure .

Merry Christmas All
Joe n Louise

Re: Uk Newby

Welcome aboard Joe and Louise! Interesting name for your boat. Since I know the origin of the name (the native American tribe who call the southern part of the Grand Canyon home,) I wonder how it came to be the name of your boat?

Re: Uk Newby

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody .

Don, the boat's name was an issue for us at the beginning and we decided we would change it . We are the second owners and after a little investigation we found out the original owner had met and possibly stayed with the Havasu Tribe and thus named her after this meeting . We felt that white man displacing the Havasu tribe and then naming a boat after them didnt sit well with us! We decided on a new name of FREJYA .
After buying HAVASUPAI and whilst waiting on a refit of electrics and rigging, Louise and i watched a documentary regarding the "nature of consciousness " and about 1/2 way through we were presented with the Leader of the Havasu Tribe being interviewed ( a huge smiley man ) that we knew nothing of before buying this Boat, lol.

I looked a Louise with my mouth open and said . "We cant change her name , you realise this is an Omen! "

So here we are still with HAVASUPAI
Roughly translates into " People of the Blue Green Water"

Everywhere we go and those that ask about her name get this story and everyone agrees

DONT CHANGE HER NAME

Joe

Re: Uk Newby

You'll need to make a pilgrimage to their reservation now and hike down. I bet you'll be even happier with the name then. Good luck in all your adventures!
