Welcome Roby!

As a trucker, you're used to long-range landbound travel. Now you'll get to (hopefully) experience some long-range seabound travel.

Good luck,

Ahoy matey! Good luck on your adventure! Posting your ideas for a boat purchase here will generate lots of opinions for you to think over, and is a good idea imo. All the best

Welcome,

I hear backing up a big full keep boat is a lot more challenging than a 50ft trailer

Nah. With a full keel boat on a trailer, you can still see more through the cradle.

Any pro who can repeatably be on target with backing up to a loading dock will have no issues with a boat.

(Welcome robyd)

The most contentious topics you will get here are full keel vs fin keel, monohull vs multihull, and anchoring in general. That's not to say those topics are not worth reading, there will be good points from both sides in there somewhere. To some extent you need to decide what is best for you and your plans with the boat, rather than which is "best" overall.

Re: Trucker who plan join sailing

Gonna continue truckin' while living aboard or planning to retire?
I am still truckin' and we have been living aboard for three years, first in MA and now in Florida.
If you're going to keep driving and are away a lot, the first thing is to choose a marina or other place for your boat that is safe and secure, both in terms of anti-theft/anti-damage and weather.
There are marinas and then there are...marinas.
Also, if you are an O/O or company driver who takes his truck home, consider that MOST marinas, in my experience anyhow, do NOT have or allow truck parking. You might find some that'll fit a tractor in, but a whole combination? Not likely.
Having said all that, I find it's the perfect lifestyle for me.
I get to get on down the road, see what's over the next hill and then retire to the placid environs if a quaint, calm marina.
Good luck!

Not planing to retire yet. Still too young. My plans are , since wife and kids are in Philippines I plan sail there and with them cruise Philippines, South Pacific and Asia for now. Of course if they want to sail with me. And for truck I’ll keep him, I can get monthly parking and let him sit , anytime I short on money I can come back do few months and go back out again. Part time trucking I guess. Let’s face it , money runs out sailing. And I looking forward not have traffic anymore. Need brake from road
How do you like living aboard? More space inside than in small cab?

What do you want to do on the boat?
IE coastal, vs local vs passage sailing?
Budget?
