Transatlantic voyage

We ordered a Lagoon 420 and are going to be sailing from France to Annapolis along with the deliver crew. We are not experienced sailors and would like to know if anyone out there has ever made this voyage. If so, what kind of personal safety gear and clothing would you recommend? We will be doing the transatlantic crossing in Mid-June. We have certainly heard that it is a crueling trip, however we really want to do in order to learn what the boat can do. Any advice appreciated!

I’d recommend a Survival Coverall, or at least a Floater Coat. Maggie and I regularly used both on Lake Superior, and even in the Bahamas (especially during night Gulf Stream crossings). They'll keep you warm, dry, & safe on deck.

Mid June ? seems a bit late to make the crossing? Hurricane season starts June 1 & its going to take you about 3 weeks to cross, so that would put you out in the middle in July .Theres a good chance we will have an active storm season this year.

Why not go earlyer? or even better yet sail the med until winter & then cross?

Life vests with integral harness plus tether. Attach whistle and strobe to vest. Rig jacklines. Plus all the other required stuff.

Don't leave the cockpit in heavy weather and/or at night without being attached to the boat by the tether. Life lines are a poor place to clip on.

If this is your first cat, you may have bought into hype about how stable they are and assume you won't be thrown about. Believe me, in heavy weather, you may not be heeling, but you will be knocked about.

Prepare as though it is going to be the voyage to hell, then maybe you will get days on end of wonderful sailing.

Wishing you fair winds and following seas.
