This May Sound Crazy, but . . .

I really want to know what it's like to live on a boat for a year before I purchase one... do any of you know of someone renting one out in the Charleston, SC area?

Never heard of anyone renting a boat for that length of time! Would you not be better ¨crewing¨ for 12 months?

I have to work and have a 15 year old son, so that's not an option for the next few years! I met someone once that lived on his friend's boat for a while- paid rent just like an apartment. I'm sure it's not common, but maybe there is someone out there!

are you wanting to sail on this boat? Or is it just somewhere to live? I met 2 guys who rent rooms on a boat in Gibraltar, it never leaves the marina and I think there are 4 people living on board?

Welcome Aboard Cruisers Forum
Buy a used 35' travel trailer, that's as close a way as any. Plenty of FEMA trailers out there from Katrina..

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I hope you can find someone that needs a boat sitter. Try marina bulletin boards and crew lists at marinas. A lot of sailing clubs post ads and I suppose craigslist does too but I'm not certain about that.
kind regards,
