I'm a very low time sailor. Seriously low time. I've done 4 crossings. 1 at night. As long as you pick reasonable
weather (which is easy to see) and properly account for the set/drift its fine.
Biggest issue for me was coming into Bimini with the sun in my eyes. Avoid that if you can and get up to speed on the
current and local knowledge.
IDK call me reckless, but I just don't think its that big of a deal.
I left from Ft Lauderdale once, and Key Biscayne. I think in the future I'd favor going south before going east. The best crossing in terms of timing, logistics and so forth was leaving from Key Biscayne before dawn and coming into Bimini mid afternoon.
