Soon To Fly on the Water

Hello all. New to sailing. Will take lessons this week in Indiana. I've been flying in the air for a quarter of a century, now it's time to fly on the water! Same principle I'm told, according to Mr. Bernoulli Sailing has been a lifelong ambition that I'm getting around to doing!

Re: Soon To Fly on the Water

Welcome.
Other principles apply as well. Don't get behind the plane applies at 5 knots as well. Don't get behind the boat. Stuff happens very fast. If you let it pile up you will be in trouble. Have your next step(s) layed out before hand.

Re: Soon To Fly on the Water

You'll find the navigation to be very familiar, along with radio use. Things don't go wrong quite as fast, except in small boats that can flip you if you come about with the sheet cleated....

Jeanathon is right, but sailing to me is flying in two dimensions rather than three. If it becomes three, you're in real trouble. Someone should write a book "Basic sailing for aircraft pilots."
