pirate Setting Out from Chile

Hello folk
Ive just stumbled across this site whilst searching for pacific cruising information, I have a 37ft sloop in Puerto Monnt in chile. And am planning to head over to New zealand shortly.
I will be back on the boat end of this year 08, spending some time getting ready then looking to be off in 09. We have no time limit on the journey (hurrah!) and want to explore parts of the pacific before dropping in on NZ.

My question at this point is what is the best time of year to be going, we are looking to leave from P. Monnt heading over to Juan Fernandez Islands, then onto Easter Is. I would be most appreciative, if some kind soul could put a young fella on the right track.

Muchas Gracias
Andy

Buonos Dias Andy,
I also have joined the forum today...so welcome here.
Re your upcoming trip, good on you, I sailed a similar route, not from Chile unfortunately, but came via Panama-Galapagos-Pitcairn-Gambier and than via Tahiti-Cooks-Tonga to NZ, an amazing trip. If I remember correctly I arrived in Pitcairn in March 2001 spend some time around the Gambier Archipelo before heading towards french polynesia, weatherwise no problems whatsoever. Hope this helps. Cheers

Welcome to both of you!

Andy - you may want to read through the posts in that geographic section of our forum: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f23/

and even perhaps ask some questions there.

Good luck!
