Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay!
I'm currently a
deckhand aboard the Sultana, a replica 18th century schooner. I fell into the tall ship world (and sailing) three years ago as a volunteer at the South Street Seaport Museum in
New York. Previously, I had never sailed before nor even worked on
boats - up until the age of 25 I was very much rooted on land and in
school studying fine art. As a volunteer on the Pioneer I discovered something I had been looking for almost my whole life - a way to make my living on the
water.
I'll be heading to Delaware next month for a stint of
winter maintenance and then hopefully be
crewing boats out of
Baltimore or similar metro area. I still aspire to be a working artist and launch a secondary career as an illustrator. Working on the
water provides me with alot of material and inspiration for my
work. If you're interested, you can see some of my drawings on my instragram (evonhasseln).
Looking forward to getting more involved on the
forums here and meeting you all!
