Greetings from the Chesapeake Bay!
I'm currently a deckhand
aboard the Sultana, a replica 18th century schooner. I fell into the tall ship world (and sailing) three years ago as a volunteer at the South Street Seaport Museum in New York
. Previously, I had never sailed before nor even worked on boats - up until the age of 25 I was very much rooted on land and in school
studying fine art. As a volunteer on the Pioneer I discovered something I had been looking for almost my whole life - a way to make my living on the water
I'll be heading to Delaware next month for a stint of winter maintenance
and then hopefully be crewing
boats out of Baltimore
or similar metro area. I still aspire to be a working artist and launch a secondary career as an illustrator. Working on the water
provides me with alot of material and inspiration for my work
. If you're interested, you can see some of my drawings on my instragram (evonhasseln).
Looking forward to getting more involved on the forums
here and meeting you all!
