Sailing Duluth MN

Good evening to all on this great forum. Sailing out of Barkers Island in our newly acquired Catalina 270 and loving the big boat life. First year in a keel boat, few decades in various size Scow boats. Always excited to talk sailing with anyone. I have so much to learn and a lifetime to take in as much as I can. Drop a line if you wanna be sailing friends.

Re: Sailing Duluth MN

Glad you're here, we are recently returned from a week of sailing out of Bayfield and presently have the boat in Lake Vermilion for another 10 days. Barker's Island (along with Lakehead) are on our short list of places we may keep our boat in future.

Re: Sailing Duluth MN

Hi Jamison, I sailed out of Thunder Bay for many years. Our cruising ground is now Newfoundland, but I still miss the Big Lake. Superior is truly one of the great undiscovered cruising grounds.

The Apostles are your immediate playground. When you're ready, heading up to Isle Royale would be great, and even over to the Keewatin Peninsula. And when the world returns to normal, and after you've got some experience under that keel, consider exploring the north and east shores (the Canadian side). Up here you will find endless shores to explore, with few (if any) other boaters around.

Re: Sailing Duluth MN

Thank you. A week in Bayfield is on the top of my list, the time I need off of work is the main hurdle. I have nothing but great things to say about Barker's Island. The staff and facilities are amazing. They keep it very clean, very well priced and safe. I asked multiple boaters about the security if I needed to keep the boat locked when I went to use the showers and such and everyone said it was very safe no issues and on roving security at night. Everything you need is right there in Superior or a 5 min drive and you are in Canal Park. First year slip renters also get a great discount. $10 for every foot of your boat.
