Request permission to come aboard

Hi all:

The wife and I have been lurking on this forum and others for a long time and by far enjoy and learned more from this one than any of the others. Finally decided to take the plunge and join.

We are in the beginning stages and working towards gaining adequate experience before purchasing a cruising boat. We have spent some time on small trailer sailors and completed certifications up through Bareboat and Catamarans. Recently, we completed our first charter in BVIs with family and friends. Have regretted coming back!!!!!!!!!!

Retirement is 5 years out and I would really like to be able to just go now.

Re: Request permission to come aboard

Welcome aboard, Life's a beach, and Lab good lady,

Good luck with your plans.

A very long time ago, now, we became cruisers, Jim took early retirement. We had to wait, a while before actualizing the dream, and I think most folks do. The important thing is to get sailing and learning now, while the plans are finalizing. No matter how things eventuate, then you'll have had fun, and more experience as sailors when you finally take off.

Since you've been lurking a while, maybe you know about noelex's and Panope's threads about anchoring. Anchoring skills that you develop while coastal cruising will be what lets you finally get to sleep when the wind is up. Check out "Photos of Anchors Setting" and "Videos of Anchors Setting." Choose the new generation anchor you'll want.

A couple of questions: 1) what's your wife's screen name? I'm sure she's a person in her own right, we'd like to meet her, too. and 2) will your wife be writing under your screen name? Just curious. It's how I got started in CF, writing under Jim's name. I think it's nice to know whether a particular post comes from a man or a woman.

Cheers,

Ann
