Hi this a request for some
advice. I have experience with
motor driven boats but not so much sail.
We have been looking at sail boats around 25 / 27 feet. Today I looked at a 1979 Oday 25 (in the water) generally in good condition for it's age but two things stood out.
1. the base of the
compression post was quite rotten. It is sheathed into the
hull above one end of the
keel, with fibreglass and appears to be just pressure fit to the underside of the super structure. What is odd that the rott is above the
cabin deck level , this if I am not mistaken tells me that the
boat has held
water in the
cabin for some time.
Question:- Although I can replace this post, are there
wood supports within the
hull that may be rotten as well?
2. The swing
keel was stuck solid
Question would you take a chance and buy this without pulling out for hull
inspection.
3. What would be the approximate cost of sail replacement Main and
Jib?
Look forward to any help.
Thanks AJ
