Hi Curtis, Jim & Sheila,
I think for the moment, this thread is the best one to use for posts. I suspect getting hold of Brad (Captain 58), Gordon, and other past posters will take awhile. Certainly, some of us had major disruptions in our life because of COVID. About 3 months after Carol and I closed the boat for the
winter of 2020, and headed to Arizona, Skagit County, WA had one of the first major COVID outbreaks, .... and we didn't get back there for 2 years.
There is a very impressive individual named Mike Beemer that runs a
marine repair technical
school (associated with Skagit Community College). He has a Skookum 47 called the Black Pearl. Kind of a reference to the "Pirates of the Caribbean"
movie. Now, I really like the Skookum 53s, but I would have to say that Mike's 47 is one of the "coolest" Skookums (or sail
boats for that fact) that I have ever seen. (and I have only seen it as it passed down the Swinomish Channel in La Connor (WA) one day).
My wife Carol and I visited with Mike over at the
school.
We talked about Skookums, and Mike noted that there were a number of them (47s and 53s) in the
Puget Sound area, and maybe we should try to get a Skookum Owners Group going. I told him that the Cruisers Forum had been somewhat active in the past on Skookum issues. But talking with Mike kind of motivated me to do this latest post here. You will find Mikes' website "cruisersforum.com" to be fascinating. Be sure to follow down the various links. More later. Bill
